Éric Monsinjon

- Lecturer in the ARC: Invisual Art (archived ARC)
His research focuses in particular on French avant-garde movements such as Lettrism and the Situationist International. As a professor, he teaches the history of the arts at the Académie de la Comédie-Française in Paris, at the École nationale d’art de Paris (ENDA) and in various art schools in France. He is also the founder of “L’Anti-Esthétique”, a blog on Mediapart devoted to experimental research in art for the general public.
He is currently working on a general theory of the formation and formalisation of new arts. The aim is, through appropriate actions and means, to transform consciously and methodically certain human activities or certain forms of non-artistic knowledge into autonomous arts. He considers that the act of creation should not be confined to the scale of a work of art, but should also extend to the scale of an art. In 2023, together with José Manrubia and Alexandre Gurita, he took part in founding a new art: the Corrida Etica.
Lecture title: Ontologie de l’art et art de nature invisuelle [Ontology of art and art of an invisual nature]
Date: Tuesday 22 October 2024 at 1.30 pm (Beirut time)
Format: Hybrid
Venue: Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, Beirut (ALBA)
Language: French
Audience: Students in the invisual art atelier
The talk is conceived as an introduction to the ontology of art. The ontology of art refers to the philosophical study of the nature of art as it unfolds historically and geographically. It is therefore a genealogical enquiry into the different modes of being of art, into how they are structured and organised into scales. Artistic creation thus becomes a dynamic Odyssey in continuous evolution. To create is to invent an ontological difference in relation to what already exists. Art does not reveal all the degrees of content it possesses at once. Time is the condition for the revelation of its being. Art of an invisual nature proposes a new ontological stage and marks a turning point in contemporary artistic thought.
