Guest artists and speakers

Lebanese photographer who turned to photography after qualifying as an architect in London in 1979.

His early work documenting daily life in Lebanon was published in newspapers such as Libération.

In 1984, Elkoury published Beyrouth Aller–Retour, a poignant portrait of Beirut at war. He then contributed to the Beirut City Centre project in 1991, documenting the city’s post-war landscape, a body of work that has become a reference in the history of photography. In 1997, Elkoury co-founded the Fondation Arabe pour l’Image (Arab Image Foundation), dedicated to the preservation of photography in the Arab world.

After settling in Turkey in 1998, he created an extensive photographic travel journal.

In 2002, he was invited by the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris, where he presented his first video, Lettres à Francine, accompanied by his exhibition catalogue Sombres.

His creative work continues to move between photography, video and writing, with his first text, La Sagesse du Photographe, published in 2004.
